Art Project Wishes Journal
This idea is from "Visual Chronicles: The No-Fear Guide to Creating Art Journals, Creative Manifestos, & Altered Books" by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino. One of my favorite art projects from Visual Chronicles is the Wishes Journal, which is a simple blank book or journal where you write down your wishes. The Wishes Journal can be for real things or events you want in your life, or total fantasies. Its easy, can be done in small increments of time, and is kind of magical. Heres how to create your own Wishes Journal: 1. Get a blank book that you like in any size. 2. Create a cover for it to identify it as your Wishes Journal, using any art medium(s) of your choosing. 3. When the urge hits you, open the journal to a blank page and think about a wish. Decide whether to write it in, stencil it, crayon it, etc. Next, come up with artwork that conveys that wish, whether it be through line drawings, coloring, magazine pictures, stamping, or whatever takes your fancy. 4. Keep it in a private place where prying eyes can't see it. Remember, these are YOUR wishes and dreams, don't hold back from them for fear that someone might see them. Keep them safe.
Below are some pages from my Wishes Journal. The top image is the cover I created for it and the other images are some of my wishes. As you can see, some of my wishes tend to be kind of ephemeral, and I like to use different mediums on each page. My favorite is creating colorful background by stamping colors onto the page; writing or using magazine cutout words; and glueing in magazine images. Anything you wish, and anyway you want to do it, is alright. Just have fun and let your creativity flow. To read my review of Visual Chronicles, click here:
