Art project: Safe PlaceThis is a simple art project that focuses on creating an imaginary safe place. Its important to have an imaginary safe place so that when you're feeling scared, insecure, or down, you can mentally go there. Now this won't work if you just create the artwork and forget about it. You must create your "safe place" with the thought in mind that this is a place where your soul can really go to be safe. No one can follow you there and nothing can harm you there. And you must post this artwork in a place where you can see it on a regular basis, to get it firmly planted in your mind's eye. If you are stumped about what to create, think about different things that make you feel good. In my "safe place" artwork, I created my "safe place" using a photo of a lake at sunset: a scan from an old book (to create the wall and archway), an abstract piece of artwork (to create the floor), and an old drawing of an angel (to symbolize myself). For my "safe place" artwork I used a lake because I love water and feel most peaceful and serene when I'm near it. I also used an image at sunset because its my favorite time of day, when I can see both the sun and the moon. I used a scan of a very old book because I love books that were made by monks who hand wrote and filled them with lush illustrations. And I used an angel image for myself because I see myself (and all beings) as eternal souls (my personal definition of an angel) who are here to grow and learn. Unless you like your drawing or painting abilities, its best to use magazine images and photographs for this project. That way you can get a sense of realism about your "safe place".
